Job Description

Heitman is in search of a Strategy & Product Development Specialist! This role will report to the Head of Global Product Strategy & Design. This function seeks to drive organic revenue growth by enhancing product development and innovation and by bringing greater strategic discipline and insight to the products we offer our clients. We stay ahead of evolving industry trends and ensure that Heitman has a robust product suite to support our clients’ needs through market cycles. We partner closely with all Heitman’s investment business globally, as well as the sales, client service, and marketing teams to deliver client solutions and achieve firm objectives.

We focus on five key areas i.e. Product Strategy, Product Development & Governance, Product Management & Oversight, Product Innovation and Corporate Strategy. Based out of our Chicago office, the candidate will be responsible for supporting the integral functions of the team. The position offers a wealth of opportunities to interact with businesses and groups across the firm as well as with senior investors, client representatives and other key partners. The ideal candidate has a passion for commercial and creative problem solving as well as strong quantitative, analytical and research abilities.

The responsibilities of a Strategy & Product Development Specialist include, but are not limited to:

  • Acquiring a deep knowledge of Heitman’s global product suite
  • Partnering with global businesses and research to assess new product ideas for viability, feasibility and fit within Heitman’s existing product set and strategic objectives, and building business cases around product ideas
  • Coordinating and managing the execution of a quarterly Product Development and Approval process, including reviewing submissions for completeness and accuracy and monitoring post approval processes. Partnering extensively with cross functional teams, globally
  • Understanding the stages of a product’s growth and maturity and setting standards and objectives for milestone product anniversary reviews
  • Partnering with teams to conduct critical gap analyses and collaborating on a product priorities strategy
  • Developing product insights by analyzing new investment product trends across asset classes and categories, including analyzing competitor product suites and identifying upcoming product blockbusters and new product structures
  • Leveraging and sharing ideas and perspectives from outside the firm
  • Conducting investment due diligence, evaluating economics, pricing and competitive analysis on new ideas (both product ideas and strategic corporate initiatives)
  • Assisting in a range of cross functional product strategy projects and pivotal initiatives

Qualifications

  • 5 - 10 years of experience in the asset management industry with knowledge of investment products and product development. Real estate, real assets or private markets preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of investment products, asset classes, distribution channels, competitors and trends
  • Proactive individual with a high degree of intellectual ability combined with a lateral-thinking, creative and enquiring mind
  • An ability to work efficiently and multi-task, prioritize, set and meet deadlines. Ability to manage a project from end to end and drive initiatives to completion
  • Strong data management and analytical skills with the capacity to assess data and form a view
  • Ability to build and understand an excel model and to read a basic financial statement. Proficiency in excel and PowerPoint
  • Collaborative individual with strong relationship-building skills who can partner successfully with employees at all levels
  • Good attention to detail and an enthusiasm to continuously improve processes and quality of output
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal
  • Progress towards a CFA and familiarity with fund structuring is a plus
