Job Description

Our Chicago office is seeking a Asset Manager with a background in Student Housing Assets for our Private Equity business in North America.   

 Key Accountabilities:

  • Apply knowledge of how assets compete and operate by evaluating occupancy, revenue, expenses, and capital expenditures
  • Identify impact of how demographics, competition, enrollment trends can impact the value of assets
  • Plan and organize asset objectives and resources to meet asset needs and financial objectives
  • Evaluate performance against budgets and business plans
  • Anticipate issues that impact the success of the assets/portfolio
  • Closely monitor property management teams, and/or joint venture partners
  • Review recommendations from the construction team in context of asset strategy
  • Establish leasing strategies and oversee property managers
  • Monitor compliance with legal documents
  • Provide exceptional client service
  • Demonstrate exceptional writing, presentation, and communication skills
  • Communicate regularly with firm leaders, the client and the Heitman team

Requirements & Preferred Skills

  • 5-10 years of real estate experience
  • Working knowledge of real estate investment management trends specifically within student housing
  • Work as a self-starter who can function autonomously as well as part of a corporate team
  • Ability to manage several parallel projects
  • Demonstrate an ability to follow company’s best practices and values
  • Strong financial modeling skills (Excel)
  • Up to 25% travel may be required
