Job Description

Our Chicago office is seeking a Staff Accountant to join their Corporate Accounting team! Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant is responsible for a variety of general accounting duties. This position has exposure to Heitman’s global consolidated company, and is a key resource for completion of the weekly processes and assistance in the corporate month-end close process. The ideal candidate will have the ability to identify, address and resolve discrepancies, as well as develop solutions to address them.

The responsibilities of a Staff Accountant include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in the preparation of timely and accurate month-end consolidated financial statements.
  • Reconciling balance sheet accounts, with a focus on understanding and clearing out outstanding items timely and accurately.
  • Performing accounting research and financial statement analysis to provide management with data and recommendations to support business decisions.
  • Assisting with the daily/weekly review and approval of employee expense reports, as part of the approval step in the Concur Expense employee reimbursement process.
  • Managing the petty cash box and process.
  • Updating monthly travel and entertainment reports for business unit heads.
  • Working collaboratively with departments throughout the organization and accounting team members to understand business transactions and ensure accurate accounting.
  • Assisting with projects as needed.
  • Additional accounting responsibilities to be added to role as position develops.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Accounting
  • 1-2 years of experience in corporate accounting environment required
  • Intermediate excel skills
  • International experience preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with a high attention to detail
  • Self-starter who can work independently and part of a team
  • Ability to prioritize and track tasks and follow processes
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
