This Opportunity

 

Our Chicago office is seeking a Senior Associate to join the firm’s Investment Research group. This position involves research into economic, capital market, and property market trends in support of the firm’s investment strategies in private equity and debt and real estate securities. Research is an integral part of the investment process at Heitman and the focus of significant corporate resources.

 

The Investment Research department is charged with:

  • Targeting market and property-level investment opportunities
  • Underwriting market assumptions for specific assets as part of the acquisitions, asset management and dispositions process
  • Framing investment strategies to capitalize on capital and property market opportunities

The responsibilities of a Senior Associate include, but are not limited to:

  • Collect and analyze data on property markets, capital markets and economic trends in North America
  • Work alongside the acquisition team on prospective property acquisitions, including assessments of local market conditions and trends, competitive properties and identification of risks/opportunities
  • Write the market section for annual business plans for properties within the Heitman-managed North American portfolio
  • Contribute analysis and text for white papers and articles for the Heitman Perspective series on market trends and their investment implications
  • Interact and work collaboratively with senior management and clients in person and on conference calls

We are seeking individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in economics, geography, urban studies or a related field. An advanced degree or CFA designation a plus
  • Three to five years in real estate research, consulting, finance, economics, geography or urban planning (Candidates with other backgrounds that demonstrate strong research and writing skills will also be considered.)
  • Excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills
  • A highly developed ability to juggle multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Fluency in Excel and PowerPoint and basic graphic design skills
  • The ability to create compelling visual displays of quantitative data
  • Comfort with creating, maintaining and manipulating databases
  • Intellectual curiosity and integrity
  • Willingness to work independently on short deadlines
